The Merced County Sheriff Coroner’s Office has recognized a male individual. hit and fatally struck by a truck earlier this month in Merced County when 24-year-old Spencer Marrujo from Inglewood was involved.
The authorities stated that California Highway Patrol officers were dispatched to an accident site where a UPS semitrailer collided with a pickup truck on the northbound stretch of Highway 99, approximately south of Atwater Boulevard, around 10:20 PM on May 6th. Upon their arrival, they discovered Marrujo dead within the travel lanes and a female individual suffering from severe injuries.
The California Highway Patrol reported that a truck bed camper became separated from the 1979 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Marrujo. This occurred as they were traveling north on Highway 99. The fallen camper landed in the right lane of the highway. According to the CHP, it seems that Marrujo halted the vehicle within the right lane and exited to attempt moving the camper towards the shoulder of the road.
Marrujo and the camper were hit by a 2023 Kenworth semi-truck operated by a 38-year-old man from Visalia, who was traveling in the correct northbound lane. According to authorities, after striking them, the large truck collided with the Chevrolet, causing the vehicle to be pushed into the left lane of the freeway.
The California Highway Patrol reported that the 28-year-old woman from Coarsegrid who was discovered on the road was airlifted to a hospital in Modesto and her condition is currently stable. Meanwhile, the operator of the semi-truck was taken to a nearby medical facility for moderate injuries.
