
Sinatra’s "My Way" is officially playing for one veteran MLB infielder.
This past weekend, speaking with local press at his alma mater, the University of Hawaii, former St. Louis Cardinals second baseman Kolten Wong declared that he has decided to retire from Major League Baseball. While visiting the city to toss the first pitch for a Rainbow Warriors game, Wong mentioned that he looks forward to dedicating more time to his family, which includes his two children.
"Basically, I'm finished with my professional career," stated Wong regarding his time as a pro. by Brian McInnis from Spectrum News Hawaii “I’ve sort of reached the point where I think I’ll likely retire soon. Given how the game is playing out right now, there doesn’t seem to be much reason to pursue it further… Since becoming a father, I am really cherishing this role. My priority is being the best possible major league dad. That’s what I plan to focus on.”
At the age of 34, Wong started his Major League Baseball journey with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2013 and stayed with the team up until 2020. He was first recognized for his skills before transitioning into other roles. a significant error he committed on the bases during a 2013 World Series match , Wong would ultimately emerge as a playoff legend for St. Louis He additionally claimed Gold Glove Awards for his performance at second base in both 2019 and 2020.
Starting from the 2021-22 season, Wong was a consistent player at second base for the Milwaukee Brewers, hitting .262 across those two years. However, he later moved between the Seattle Mariners and the Los Angeles Dodgers, making his final appearance in an MLB game with the Dodgers in 2023. In 2024, Wong secured a minor-league deal with the Baltimore Orioles but did not manage to return to the major league team.
