Fatal Crash in Vermillion Parish Takes Life of Crowley Driver

KAPLAN, La. ( KLFY – A vehicular accident in Vermillion Parish has resulted in the death of a driver from Crowley.

Shortly before 10 p.m. on Saturday, law enforcement officials reported a one-car accident on LA Highway 335 close to Teche Road. This incident resulted in the death of Sommer Simon, aged 40, from Crowley.

Officials said Simon was traveling west on LA Highway 335 in a 2017 Ford Mustang when, for reasons unknown, the Ford traveled off the roadway to the left, struck multiple trees and became fully engulfed in flames.

Authorities stated that Simoon passed away at the location due to the wounds received during the accident.

The reason for the accident is still being looked into.

UPPER DARBY TWP., Pa. - A probe is ongoing following reports from law enforcement that a 16-year-old male was killed by gunfire in Upper Darby Township on Sunday.

The Upper Darby Police Department reported that a 16-year-old male died from gunshot wounds on Sunday around 2:58 p.m.

Initial reports suggest that an argument between the victim and another young male escalated, resulting in the suspect firing at the 16-year-old, striking him in the lower back area.

The victim was transported to Penn Presbyterian Hospital, where they were subsequently declared deceased.

Man Fatally Struck by Big Rig on Merced County Road Identified

The Merced County Sheriff Coroner’s Office has recognized a male individual. hit and fatally struck by a truck earlier this month in Merced County when 24-year-old Spencer Marrujo from Inglewood was involved.

The authorities stated that California Highway Patrol officers were dispatched to an accident site where a UPS semitrailer collided with a pickup truck on the northbound stretch of Highway 99, approximately south of Atwater Boulevard, around 10:20 PM on May 6th. Upon their arrival, they discovered Marrujo dead within the travel lanes and a female individual suffering from severe injuries.

The California Highway Patrol reported that a truck bed camper became separated from the 1979 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Marrujo. This occurred as they were traveling north on Highway 99. The fallen camper landed in the right lane of the highway. According to the CHP, it seems that Marrujo halted the vehicle within the right lane and exited to attempt moving the camper towards the shoulder of the road.

Marrujo and the camper were hit by a 2023 Kenworth semi-truck operated by a 38-year-old man from Visalia, who was traveling in the correct northbound lane. According to authorities, after striking them, the large truck collided with the Chevrolet, causing the vehicle to be pushed into the left lane of the freeway.

The California Highway Patrol reported that the 28-year-old woman from Coarsegrid who was discovered on the road was airlifted to a hospital in Modesto and her condition is currently stable. Meanwhile, the operator of the semi-truck was taken to a nearby medical facility for moderate injuries.
