Construction Crews Hit the Road: Wisconsin Drivers Urged to Stay Alert for Worker Safety

TOMAHAWK, Wis. (WSAW) - The early indications of summertime weather this year have ushered in another season in Wisconsin: construction season. While encountering traffic slowdowns can be frustrating, road workers are asking everyone to remain patient for their own safety as well as theirs.

David Karnes is the Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s Traffic Systems & Management Chief. He oversees the statewide traffic management center. It helps keep Wisconsin highways safe. His department helps manage traffic incidents and coordinates with local officials on urgent responses.

He knows there’s nothing people can agree on more -- poor road conditions and potholes. We can place the primary blame on Wisconsin winters. The remedy? Road construction.

“One thing about the summer in Wisconsin is work zones are popping up everywhere across the state, right? And construction zones often have lane shifts, reduced speed limits. There can be sudden stops,” said Karnes.

And for drivers who are not paying attention, the consequences are deadly.

Over the past five years, there have been over 10,000 accidents in construction areas, resulting in more than 3,600 injuries and 56 fatalities.

This summer, visitors exploring Northwoods will face significant construction work along Highway 8 in Lincoln County. Crews will repave highway 8 from McCord Road to about County Highway L, replace the railroad crossing, guardrails over the Tomahawk River, add pavement markings at snowmobile crossings, add rumble strips to improve safety for bicyclers and more.

The complete length of the road spans approximately 15 miles. The project is anticipated to be completed by October. In the meantime, Karnes advises motorists to prioritize safety for all.

“It’s everyone’s responsibility to drive safe and make responsible decisions when they’re behind the wheel.”

MLB Roundup: Phillies' Mick Abel Shines in Debut, Outpitching Paul Skenes

In his first Major League game, Mick Abel matched a franchise record by striking out nine batters across six innings at home. The Philadelphia team thus swept the series against Pittsburgh with a narrow 1-0 win.

Abel (1-0), selected as the top pick in the first round of the 2020 MLB Draft from Jesuit High School located in Portland, Oregon, distributed five hits during his game. He matched the franchise record for strikeouts by a player making their MLB debut, which was initially set by Curt Simmons—famous with the "Whiz Kids"—on September 28, 1947, versus the New York Giants. In the second inning, he fanned all three batters faced, becoming the inaugural Phillie to register five strikeouts within just the opening two frames of their Major League bow.

In the fifth inning, Philadelphia grabbed a 1-0 advantage as Nick Castellanos started with an infield hit, moved to third base due to a single by Max Kepler, and subsequently scored on a fielder's choice by Brandon Marsh after one out was recorded.

Despite surrendering only three hits and one run across eight innings, Paul Skenes (3-5) took the loss. He issued one walk and recorded nine strikeouts but has dropped to 0-3 in his past four outings since securing a victory on April 25 against the Dodgers at Dodger Stadium, which ended with a score of 3-0.

Yankees 8, Mets 2

Cody Bellinger smashed a grand slam, concluding a six-run outburst in the eighth inning, which helped the hosting Yankees pull ahead for a win against the Mets in the final game of the Subway Series.

This marked Bellinger's ninth career grand slam and his first since July 15, 2023, when he played for the Chicago Cubs. During this inning, the Yankees took advantage of a throwing error made by Mets' first baseman Pete Alonso. Bellinger had an impressive game, going 3-for-3 with two walks and matching his personal best by bringing home six RBIs. Meanwhile, starter Max Fried limited the Mets to just two runs off three hits over six innings.

In yet another difficult evening at Yankee Stadium, Soto had a tough time, going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts. His performance brought his batting average down to .246 after he managed only one hit out of ten tries throughout the series. Additionally, Jeff McNeil contributed an RBI single in the third inning when there were two outs, which later led to him scoring due to a wild pitch thrown by Fried.

Astros 4, Rangers 3

Isaac Paredes' three-run homer in the eighth inning made all the difference as Houston staged a comeback to defeat Texas. The two teams from Texas concluded their four-game series with each team winning twice.

Paredes hit a home run against reliever Robert Garcia (1-2), which turned Framber Valdez (3-4) into the winning pitcher after he gave up three runs over seven innings. Josh Hader struck out all three Rangers batters in the ninth inning to secure his 11th save.

Yainer Diaz ended Texas’ Jack Leiter’s no-hitter attempt with a solo homerun with two outs in the seventh inning. Leiter pitched through the eighth inning for the first time in his career; however, Garcia couldn’t maintain a 3-1 lead for Texas.

Nationals 10, Orioles 4

C.J. Abrams launched the game's opening pitch into his first homer as part of scoring two, with visiting Washington ultimately defeating struggling Baltimore 10-4.

Luis Garcia Jr., Dylan Crews, and Josh Bell also went deep for the Nationals, who have now won three consecutive games after their 1-8 slump. This was the first time since last September that they hit five home runs in a single game.

Despite receiving home runs from Cedric Mullins, Gunnar Henderson, and Jackson Holliday across three consecutive innings, Baltimore finished with an 0-6 record at home after dismissing manager Brandon Hyde on Saturday. Over their last 14 contests, the Orioles have suffered defeats in 12 matches.

Braves 10, Red Sox 4

Marcell Ozuna hit a two-run home run and had three RBIs to lead visiting Atlanta to a 10-4 victory over Boston.

The Braves had 16 hits and drew seven walks in the win. Alex Verdugo and Austin Riley each collected three hits for Atlanta, which broke a 4-4 tie by scoring three runs in the fifth. The Braves drew four walks in the inning.

Rafael Devers smacked a grand slam for the Red Sox. This brought his total home runs for the season up to nine, with this being his second in consecutive matches. Both Devers and David Hamilton contributed two hits apiece towards Boston’s tally of eight hits.

Tigers 3, Blue Jays 2

Spencer Torkelson contributed with a double, a single, and three RBIs as the visiting Detroit team triumphed over Toronto with a score of 3-2.

In the seventh inning, Torkelson's run-scoring base hit overcame a 2-2 deadlock. Dillon Dingler recorded three hits, and Riley Greene contributed two more for the Tigers during the decisive game of the trilogy matchup. Right-handed pitcher Jackson Jobe from the Tigers pitched six frames, giving up six hits and two walks along with striking out five batters, but ended up without a decision.

The Tigers have emerged victorious in five out of their last six games. Meanwhile, the Blue Jays have started their nine-game home stand with a record of two wins and four losses.

Reds 3, Guardians 1

Will Benson stayed scorching hot on Sunday afternoon as he hit two home runs, guiding host Cincinnati to a 3-1 victory over Cleveland and completing a sweep of their three-game interleague series.

Benson broke the deadlock with a two-run home run against Luis Ortiz (2-5) in the fourth inning, then extended the lead with a solo shot off Hunter Gaddis in the sixth. The outfielder ended up going 3-for-4 for the game and has now hit homers in four consecutive matches. During this stretch, Benson is maintaining an impressive average of .526 (10 out of 19), including four home runs and driving in 10 runs over six games. This ongoing streak of hitting home runs is currently the longest by a Reds player since TJ Friedl achieved the same feat byhomeringinfourstraightgamesfromSeptember22to26lastyear.

After a 2-9 slump, the Reds have now won four consecutive games and have returned to an even record for the season at 24-24.

Carlos Santana hit an RBI single in the seventh inning for the Guardians, who have now lost four consecutive games following their strong start where they won eight out of their first twelve games in May.

Marlins 5, Rays 1

Otto Lopez hit a three-run home run in his second game back from the injured list, and Cal Quantrill threw a perfect inning with three consecutive strikeouts as Miami beat Tampa Bay 5-1 at home.

Quantrill (3-4) secured the victory after throwing an "immaculate inning" in the fourth frame—nine pitches, all strikes, resulting in three strikeouts. Of these, he recorded four swings for strikes, three calls for strikes, and two fouls. In total, Quantrill fanned six batters, gave up two hits, issued two walks, and conceded one run over five innings of work.

Miami secured victories in two out of the three games in this intra-state rivalry series. This marks the first time since 2018 that Miami has emerged victorious in a series against Tampa Bay.

Brewers 5, Twins 2

Freddy Peralta (5-3) gave up just one run across five strong innings, helping Milwaukee evade a sweep with a 5-2 win against Minnesota, thus ending the Twins' 13-game winning streak.

Zebby Mathews (0-1), who was promoted from Triple-A St. Paul, conceded four runs off five hits over three innings in his first game of the season. The Twins hadn’t lost since their 6-1 loss to Boston on May 2nd.

Isaac Collins and Sal Frelick both brought home two runs apiece for Milwaukee. Trevor Megill, who was the fifth hurler on the mound for the Brewers that day, secured his sixth save.

Royals 2, Cardinals 1

Maikel Garcia drove home the go-ahead run with an RBI single in the seventh inning, helping Kansas City avoid a sweep against the visiting St. Louis Cardinals with a 2-1 win.

The Royals stranded seven players on base against Cardinals pitcher Matthew Liberatore, who performed exceptionally well by conceding only one run, six hits, and one walk across six innings. Nevertheless, Kansas City quickly capitalized on reliever Chris Roycroft (1-3) when they were tied 1-1 during the seventh inning.

The sole run conceded by Royals' starting pitcher Michael Wacha came from Alec Burleson's homer in the fourth inning. Over five innings, Wacha recorded six strikeouts and issued one walk.

This win ended a four-game losing streak for the Royals, as they had previously lost six out of their last seven games. It also temporarily slowed down the Cardinals' momentum, who had been on a winning streak of three consecutive games and 12 out of their last 13.

Cubs 6, White Sox 2

Seiya Suzuki scored two runs, guiding the Chicago Cubs to a complete three-game victory over theChicago White Soxduring their series at home.

Colin Rea threw for 5 1/3 innings with the Cubs, after which reliever Drew Pomeranz (1-0) took over to finish off the sixth. In the bottom part of that inning, the Cubs rallied to score three runs, giving them a 4-1 advantage.

In the game, four Cubs players recorded two hits apiece, with Nico Hoerner notably hitting two doubles. The Chicago Cubs have now won eight successive matches against the White Sox.

Diamondbacks 1, Rockies 0

Ketel Marte homered in the first inning, Merrill Kelly pitched seven scoreless innings and Arizona deprived Colorado of its first series win of the season with a 1-0 victory in Phoenix.

Marte went deep as the second batter of the D-backs' first and Kelly (5-2) gave up only one hit while striking out 11, one short of his career high. Kelly took a no-hitter into the sixth before Rockies' leadoff hitter Jordan Beck grounded a double inside the bag at third on Kelly's 83rd pitch to break it up. Kelly walked three and threw a season-high 109 pitches.

Colorado dropped to 8-38, marking the poorest beginning since 1901. Teams like the 1904 Washington Senators, the 1932 Boston Red Sox, and the 1988 Baltimore Orioles had similarly dismal starts at 9-37.

Giants 3, Athletics 2

Heliot Ramos homered and later drove in the tie-breaking run with a single in the eighth to lift host San Francisco past the visiting Athletics and complete a sweep of the three-game series.

Closer Tyler Ferguson (0-2), who began the eighth inning with the Athletics ahead 2-1, gave up a lead-off triple to pinch hitter LaMonte Wade Jr. Following that, pincher Patrick Bailey contributed an RBI single, followed by a successful sacrifice bunt and another RBI hit from Ramos.

Another impressive performance from Oakland’s southpaw Jeffrey Springs was overshadowed by the team's late-game reversal. Springs conceded just one run and two hits across 6 2/3 frames, fanning five batters while not issuing a single free pass. Despite starting off with giving up a homer to Ramos on his initial offering, he went on to retire 20 consecutive hitters, never facing more than one runner at a time.

Angels 6, Dodgers 4

Travis d'Arnaud secured a lead with a homerun in the eighth inning, leading the visiting Los Angeles Angels to complete a three-game sweep with a 6-4 win against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Shaun Anderson (1-0) allowed only one run during his 2 2/3 innings of relief work, ultimately closing the game by striking out Shohei Ohtani.

Zack Neto kicked off the game with a home run for the Angels, and Taylor Ward followed up with a two-run homer - his twelfth - three hitters afterward.

Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Anthony Banda (3-1) surrendered the d'Arnaud home run — his first of the year — which led to him taking the loss. In the seventh inning, Will Smith tied the game with a three-run homer, bringing the score to 4-4.

Mariners 6, Padres 1

Randy Arozarena hit a home run to kick off a three-run surge, and Bryan Woo pitched impressively for seven innings as the visiting Seattle team swept San Diego with a 6-1 victory, completing their series clean sweep.

Woo (5-1) surrendered only five hits and a run without issuing any walks, striking out five batters. He threw 67 of his 87 pitches for strikes and allowed just one hit across his final 5 1/3 innings pitched. This performance brought his earned run average down to 2.65.

Michael King (4-2) suffered the defeat after giving up six hits and allowing four runs (three earned) over 5 1/3 innings. He issued one walk and struck out eight batters. The first hit against him came when Arozarena hit his sixth home run—a curveball he connected with—with two outs in the fourth inning. This moment sparked a streak where Seattle recorded five consecutive hits, taking the lead permanently thanks to Leody Taveras’ ground-rule double into right field. They extended their advantage to 3-1 following an infield single by Miles Mastrobuoni.

Aaron Gordon Urgently Pleads With NBA to Overhaul Dangerous Playoff Scheduling

It's funny how much time we spend fixating on the NBA's regular season and analyzing everything based on that sample size when, often, the playoffs hinge on the healthiest remaining teams more than anything else.

As we prepare for both the Western Conference Finals and Eastern Conference Finals Over the coming two weeks, one could reasonably argue that the remaining four teams -- theصند Oklahoma City Thunder , Minnesota Timberwolves , Indiana Pacers , and New York Knicks — are all, at least partly, only still standing because their main rotations remain intact and healthy. These four teams with nearly 100 games of mileage on their rosters right now are especially fortunate in this regard because they're about to start two dangerous, respective schedules with games scheduled for every other night .

Yes, even when they have to travel between cities. Huh? Why?

Following a postseason marked by significant injuries to key players with heavy workloads such as the Boston Celtics ' Jayson Tatum , the Golden State Warriors ' Steph Curry , and the Denver Nuggets ' Aaron Gordon — each of which helped contribute to their respective teams' ultimate demise — it's almost like the NBA is practically begging for someone new to get hurt with such a schedule. That or the league is clamoring for a de facto "Hunger Games" for the title purely because it wants a playoff game every other night for marketing purposes rather than prioritizing the health of its best players and a better, cleaner product in its biggest games of the entire year.

Make it make sense. Because, as it stands, it doesn't.

This is an urgent conversation that Gordon urgently asked the league to modify. following his performance in a Game 7 against the Thunder despite suffering from a Grade 2 hamstring strain after getting only minimal rest and seeing injuries occur to fellow players such as Tatum and Curry.

Gordon presents a very convincing argument:

Certainly, Gordon’s viewpoint partly stems from his frustration with the challenges the Nuggets faced during their 2025 playoff campaign. Throughout approximately five weeks, Denver only experienced three stretches of rest longer than a single day. In fact, after winning a crucial Game 6 against the Thunder to force a decisive seventh game, the team had contested nine matches within a span of 17 days.

The Nuggets and Thunder surprisingly played a game that was slated on the schedule. in under 36 hours of rest It’s amazing nobody was hurt there. )

Unsurprisingly, the Nuggets found themselves exhausted by the conclusion of the game, and they sadly witnessed Gordon, a key player for them, sustain a soft-tissue injury when it mattered most.

Perhaps teams such as the Nuggets experience this issue less if they did not have to play consecutive seven-game series. They might also face fewer challenges if their rosters were more balanced rather than heavily reliant on key players. The Oklahoma City Thunder, Minnesota Timberwolves, Indiana Pacers, and New York Knicks all addressed these concerns effectively despite having deep squads. Nevertheless, it remains highly unwise and reckless to structure the typical NBA playoff series without providing additional recovery time, regardless of whether the series reaches the full seven games or ends sooner.

Since this entire situation goes beyond the scope of just the Nuggets, Celtics, or Warriors. There comes a moment when, despite having some of the best athletes globally competing in your league, they remain human. You’re expecting far too much from individuals whose physiques mirror those of regular people like us, complete with identical physical constraints.

For those who might argue that current NBA players seem softer because they can't endure such challenges, allow me to be clear: you have no idea what you’re discussing.

Today’s players in the league excel beyond what we’ve seen before; they leap higher, sprint quicker, and display sheer power like never before. This undeniable truth comes at a cost as these professionals have played nearly half a year by the time playoff season arrives. Moreover, due to the widespread adoption of three-point shots across the board, every player must now traverse greater distances throughout each game compared to any previous era in NBA history. The demands include significantly more dashing, halting, restarting, and constant switching between positions all over the court than was required previously.

This isn’t the same game most of you probably remember from days gone by. In fact, it’s barely recognizable compared to what it was just a decade ago. That’s why many athletes often refrain from giving their full effort throughout a season that can seem never-ending at times.

They truly lack the stamina for it.

Gordon’s observation is clear and compelling for all NBA players. This is indeed an issue that requires attention from everyone involved, particularly the league and Commissioner Adam Silver, who appears attentive. It continually attempts to resolve trivial "problems." These issues are not related to safeguarding or valuing the game or its participants. In fact, the NBA’s tendency to exaggerate minor matters probably exacerbates this palpable issue with playoff scheduling. The introduction of recent (and unnecessary) in-season and play-in tournaments has essentially extended the season by about two weeks.

You know, those two weeks of time could have been distributed among all the playoff teams' postseason schedules instead. Hmmm. Those days would have come in handy, I believe!

If the NBA truly prioritizes its players, it must heed Aaron Gordon’s concerns. End of discussion. Failing to adequately address this matter would be entirely unacceptable for a league that genuinely needs to self-reflect.

The article initially appeared on For The Win. Aaron Gordon implored the NBA to alter its risky playoff scheduling.

Scottie Scheffler's Heartwarming Tribute to Wife Meredith After Major Realization

Scottie Scheffler offered touching insights into how his wife Meredith has contributed to his achievements.

Scheffler has he won the PGA Championship for the first time in his career. His wife was present to assist. Send him a heartfelt greeting filled with kindness. On the 18th green before he was awarded the Wanamaker Trophy, which he intends for her to approve.

This represents the most recent triumph in Scheffler’s remarkable career, during which he has held the top spot in the world rankings for two years and claimed victory at the Masters tournament twice. When asked what factors contributed to his achievements, he acknowledged his manager, coach, and caddy before stating, with Meredith and his parents present: "I have an amazing family, a fantastic wife, and a delightful son."

READ MORE: Scottie Scheffler discloses that his driver malfunctioned right after claiming victory at the PGA Championship.

READ MORE: Jon Rahm analyzes his PGA Championship meltdown and points fingers at what cost him the million-dollar prize.

“I feel like off the golf course, my life is wonderful. We live what I would feel like is a pretty simple life at home.

Living life on the golf course has been wonderful too. I’ve managed to secure victories in several competitions. Whenever we return home, Meredith and I often feel as though we’re still teenagers.

We have wonderful buddies, and we can hardly wait to return home this week and do regular activities together with them, enjoying a splendid victory.

The sense of joy came after he realized one day at home with Meredith prior to the last round of the 2022 Masters that everything in their lives had transformed completely.

He remembered: "I believe that if I reflect on how I felt on Sunday morning before the 2022 Masters, about three months prior to that tournament, I had just claimed my first victory on the PGA Tour."

“I won my first tournament in February, and then unexpectedly found myself with a three-stroke advantage heading into the final round of the Masters as the top-ranked player globally.”

It’s one of those situations where my spouse and I found ourselves asking, how did we end up here? What has transpired over the past few years of our lives that brought us to this place?

I’m simply uncertain whether we were prepared for everything it involved. The way of life has changed significantly since I first started playing a few years back.

It’s clearly all wonderful stuff. I enjoy being in this position. However, these sentiments mostly stemmed from the unforeseen aspects, and we weren’t entirely prepared for them.

So whenever I reflect on a day like today, it feels quite extensive. As mentioned earlier, one dedicates their entire career aiming for tournament victories, and nothing could be more opportune than holding a three-stroke advantage.

Occasionally, I find myself wishing I wasn’t so invested — or that I weren’t quite as invested anymore. Life would certainly be simpler if I could just participate without being deeply affected, acting nonchalant about winning or losing before heading back home unchanged.

But ultimately, this means a great deal to me. Holding this trophy feels quite remarkable. I am deeply thankful and eagerly anticipating returning home to celebrate.

2025 PGA Championship Final Round: Scheffler's Rise and McIlroy's Struggles

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Scottie Scheffler took home the 107th PGA Championship, shooting a final-round 71 to win by five shots. Who else won on Sunday? Who fell short? We call ’em like we see ’em around here. They are:

2025 PGA Championship Day 4 Winners

Scottie Scheffler: Sunday wasn’t a coronation, but righting himself after a shaky front nine was a testament to his fortitude. To go from tied early on the back nine to up six on the final hole was also a reminder that golf hasn’t had a closer like this since in-prime Tiger Woods. On to Oakmont.

Career Grand Slam Hype: Just after Rory McIlroy’s performance at Augusta, Scheffler has now secured two major championships and has the next two lined up for this summer. You might want to grab some popcorn.

Harris English: The veteran made a pile of cash in finishing T2 with a closing 65 (including a five-birdie 31 on the back), his best round in a major. And don’t rule him out for the Ryder Cup team, the 35-year-old won earlier this year and majors award one-and-a-half points per $1,000 won instead of one per $1,000 for regular Tour events. Let's see if he can keep it going at Oakmont.

Davis Riley: After a triple-bogey 8 at the par-5 7th, the Mississippi native was clean the rest of the way with three birdies, climbing into the three-way tie for second for his best major finish. And he also punched a ticket to next year’s Masters.

Keegan Bradley: The U.S. Ryder Cup captain opened with three bogeys in his first seven holes Sunday but showed the kind of mettle he hopes his team has in September, shooting 1-over 72 to finish in the top 10. Chatter around being a playing captain is still alive, and it was a solid showing for several Americans likely to be on his squad.

Joaquin Niemann: We were hard on the Chilean in this space yesterday For ongoing letdowns in majors, however, an impressive 68-shot performance on Sunday propelled him from tied for 31st to tied for eighth — his strongest result in a major so far. This achievement secures his spot in next year’s PGA, which is crucial for someone affiliated with LIV Golf.

2025 PGA Championship Final Round Eliminated Players

Jon Rahm: He managed to catch up with Scheffler early on the latter part of his round, yet several unfortunate breaks along with some errant shots pushed him out of the running. As the sole contender posing a challenge to Scheffler, he faced disappointment as there were no consolation prizes for being second-best on this particular Sunday for the twice-major-winning player.

Bryson DeChambeau: It will be recorded in the books as a T2 finish, however, it turned out to be a rather subdued afternoon considering DeChambeau possesses possibly unmatched power compared to his competitors.

Rory McIlroy: It hadn't been his week, but one might excuse him for experiencing a post-Masters letdown. However, no such leniency is granted for this. skipping out on the media for four straight days When he could have utilized a brief conversation to resolve the backlash surrounding the non-conforming driver he had been compelled to replace earlier in the week.

Max Homa: As much as his Friday 64 seemed to be a turning point In a prolonged effort to regain his form, a disappointing performance over the weekend of July 6-7 left him sharing 60th place. During Sunday’s round, he threw down an iron following a subpar approach shot, clearly showing his irritation.

Joggers: We're not the fashion police, but Alex Noren’s outfit on Sunday appeared rather dowdy for someone aiming for a Wanamaker trophy. Competing in the last group with Scheffler, he scored a 76 and ended up tied for 17th place.

This piece was initially released on www.si.com as 2025 PGA Championship Final Round Standings: Elevating Scottie Scheffler’s Legacy, Challenging Week for Rory McIlroy .

Nevertheless, difficulty in selling the properties only hints at her financial struggles. The Atlanta Black Star acquired a document filed on February 18 with the State Court of Fulton County, which names both individuals’ real estate ventures and Angela as defendants for breaching a contract related to an outstanding loan agreement. They have been husband and wife since 2016.

The "RHOA" cast members are delinquent due to unpaid charges amounting to $214,975, which includes a $10,000 late fee. The Oakley family was required to settle this substantial debt within ten days after receiving the legal notice.

The lawsuit filed by Plaintiff Pelican Solutions LLC asserts that both The Oakley Agency LLC, which has Charles, Samuel & Jean Consulting LLC as its registered agent with Angela serving as their appointed representative, along with the newcomer from reality TV, "promised to uphold the commitments made by Defendant Agency and Defendant Consulting through a document titled 'Personal Guaranty of Payment' signed on March 13, 2024."

She was supposed to make installment payments throughout the duration of the contract, along with a large sum payment upon reaching the maturity date of the note on April 13, 2024. Not adhering to this arrangement could lead to consequences.

'The Last of Us' Season 2 Takes a Dramatic Detour: The Show’s Pivotal Mishap

The Last of Us Has consistently taken pride in remaining true to the source material, though this does not necessarily entail presenting every detail from the game in the exact sequence. In season one, they introduced antagonist Kathleen, an extremely fervent cannibalistic sect leader, along with a poignant stand-alone episode depicting the romantic relationship between Bill and Frank .

In season two, at first, we witness the introduction of Gail, who serves as Joel’s therapist and is also the widow of the deceased Eugene. However, following this, most events adhered to the original trajectory. The Last of Us Part II However, in the second-to-last episode of Season 2, everything shifts as they try to create an independent episode that bridges the story gaps left by the game. Yet, it ends up being overwhelming despite its promising start.

Warning! Spoilers ahead for The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 6.

In The Last of Us Part II Ellie embarks on a three-day journey through Seattle to locate Abby, during which her path is periodically diverted by glimpses into her history alongside Joel. The opening scene of the game depicts Joel presenting Ellie with a guitar he has crafted for her as she plays along. In another flashback, we witness a special birthday surprise organized by Joel, allowing Ellie to visit an entire science museum at his behest. Further down memory lane, one year later, they come across the lifeless bodies of a married couple who had left their home in Jackson, prompting Ellie to challenge some of the stories Joel had shared regarding events in Salt Lake City following her operation at the hands of the Fireflies. Ultimately, upon revisiting the hospital, Ellie uncovers a cassette recording that exposes the reality—Joel removed her from the custody of the Fireflies due to their plan to use her as part of a sacrificial procedure.

In the end, we get a glimpse of what occurred the evening prior to the game’s primary storyline—the New Year’s party, Ellie’s kiss with Dina, and Joel protecting Ellie. Subsequently, the pair reunites on the veranda for an important discussion regarding Joel’s actions and seeking absolution: although Ellie remains uncertain about forgiving Joel, she expresses her willingness to attempt it.

In the show, all these flashback scenes are compressed into a single episode with several changes made: instead of finding the corpses of an escaping couple like Ellie and Joel do in the game, they come across Eugene who has been injured. Most notably, this episode also features the cherished porch scene—a moment that appears near the end of the video game for maximum emotional effect—but since the television series is still early in retelling the narrative from the midway point of the game, the poignant feeling of that particular sequence loses much of its intensity.

It's clear why each of these flashback scenes is confined to a single episode: doing so allows this particular episode to function independently from the main storyline of vengeance and recreate the experience similar to the "Bill and Frank" episode, which largely unfolded in the past. Additionally, there’s another advantage; by limiting Joel's presence solely to this specific episode, Pedro might have the chance to be nominated for a Guest Actor Emmy award, much like how Kaitlyn Dever is vying for recognition in the Guest Actress category.

However, within the game, these flashbacks integrate seamlessly throughout, offering insight into how Ellie copes with losing Joel. Just as grief unfolds unpredictably, memories often oscillate between pleasant moments and difficult ones across various timelines. The intent behind this segment was to serve as an emotional reflection on this concept; however, it concludes as a hurried retrospective that becomes nearly unbearable to experience.

The Last of Us Season 2 is currently available for streaming on HBO Max.

“There are a lot of demon hunting shows; there’s tons of movies and things. It is a genre unto itself, right? But what makes our show a fun, unique and original ride is in the mash-up of combining that with the family dramedy, Appalachian noir, a country music story and, oh yeah, Kevin Bacon putting chainsaws through the faces of demons," Oleson added.

Just like how everything blends together, it creates an entertaining and ideally unique experience. You can't quite tell if you'll burst into laughter, let out a startled cry, or turn to whoever's beside you on the couch and exclaim, 'What the hell? But it sure was enjoyable!'

Adelman's Critical Error Cost Nuggets Fans Their Beloved Malone

David Adelman committed a crucial error in Game 7 for the Denver Nuggets , but he wasn't aware of this at the time. Adelman opted for a lineup that did not feature Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray, which had a -24 NET rating during the regular season, as reported. NBA analyst Carson Breber .

Within just one minute, that roster saw the Thunder go on a 6-0 scoring streak, appears to have ignited the Oklahoma City team’s offensive momentum, ultimately leading to their decisive victory in game seven against Denver.

Overall, this likely did not significantly impact the Nuggets' capability to overcome the team seeded first. Oklahoma City Thunder However, this moment highlighted Adelman’s lack of coaching experience. This incident might be something the Nuggets’ management considers as they determine whether to remove the interim label from his title or opt for a more seasoned coach instead.

Adelman faced a tough situation, stepping into the role with the Nuggets after Michael Malone left at the end of the season. Despite this challenge, he performed admirably, leading the team to back-to-back seven-game series. However, how they fare in these crucial moments might decide if the Nuggets see him as the ideal replacement for Mike Malone.

The accident during Game 7 shows that the Nuggets may have underestimated how much they rely on Malone.

David Adelman might have failed his interview for Nuggets full time job with Game 7 mishap

The Nuggets were not expected to push the top-ranked team in the NBA to a Game 7, which means Adelman should be commended for this achievement. However, minor errors proved crucial. One might argue that these mishaps, along with Aaron Gordon’s Grade 2 hamstring strain forcing him into the starting role, made all the difference.

Certainly, he had to be part of the action, but could risking an injury for potentially longer-term consequences justify his playtime? Though nothing happened this time, one can wonder about the scenario if it did. I'm uncertain whether it made sense to put Gordon into the game for 25 minutes when the outcome seemed clear by halftime.

Nevertheless, the error made by Adelman was significant enough that many Nuggets supporters were longing for Michael Malone to be back coaching on the Denver sideline.

Adelman has a lot to learn to get a full-time head coaching job in the NBA. We could probably point to quite a few mistakes that could affect his chances at getting the full-time job. But the two that stood out happened in the most important game of the season.

Murray and Jokic have emerged as two of the top pairings in the NBA. While it makes sense to substitute one player occasionally for a break, removing both at once when they hadn’t meshed well throughout the entire season seems like an error. This could be something the Nuggets' management team doesn't let slide easily.

The article was initially published on as David Adelman’s error during Game 7 cost Nuggets fans the opportunity to see Mike Malone. .

Air Conditioning Mandate for State Prisons Clears Senate

Marlin, TX ( FOX 44 The Texas House has approved a bill mandating that state prisons be equipped with air conditioning.

This legislation mandates that the Texas Department of Criminal Justice must have air conditioning installed across all their facilities by December 2032. They plan to implement these climate-control systems through three stages, with each phase encompassing roughly one-third of the establishments under their jurisdiction.

Specialists indicate that the absence of air conditioning in detention centers presents considerable health and safety hazards for both prisoners and personnel due to the state’s intense heat. During an exclusive conversation solely on Fox44 News, I talked with a former inmate who completed her sentence at Marlin’s Hobby Unit. She mentioned that the summer periods were extremely dangerous without air conditioning.

"I'm on the top floor of this metal structure, and it's incredibly hot up here—reaching temperatures as high as 150 degrees. There are small fans available downstairs, but none for our floor. Even though we're considered criminals, we still have humanity. Yet, they treat us worse than animals... People are suffering; some are even losing their lives," said ex-inmate Vanessa Parker.

The estimated cost for each stage is approximately $100 million, with the initial phase needing completion by December 31, 2028. Phase two should conclude by 2030, followed by all remaining installations being finalized by December 31, 2032.

NBA Finals: Only the Knicks Lack a Win Since 1973

The NBA’s Final Four has been determined, and just so you know, we’re going to see a brand-new champion this year.

In the Western Conference, the number one seed, the Oklahoma City Thunder, will face off against the sixth-seeded Minnesota Timberwolves.

In the Eastern Conference, it's the third-seeded New York Knicks facing off against the fourth-seeded Indiana Pacers.

No matter which team emerges victorious in the Thunder-Wolves series, the winner from the West will make their debut appearance in the Finals.

In the meantime, both the Knicks and Pacers have made it to the Finals, though it has been quite some time since their last appearance. The Knicks' most recent trip was in 1999 when they were seeded eighth during a lockout-condensed season. They ended up losing to the San Antonio Spurs.

In 1994, they were defeated by the Houston Rockets. Prior to that, in 1973, the Knicks emerged victorious. This victory took place during the era of Walt Frazier , Earl Monroe , Willis Reed , Dave DeBusschere , and Bill Bradley They defeated the Los Angeles Lakers to win the championship.

As for the Pacers, their only trip to the NBA Finals happened in 2000, where they were defeated by the Lakers. Prior to joining the NBA, during their time in the ABA, they made it to the finals five times, winning championships in 1970, 1972, and 1973. Additionally, they appeared in the ABA Finals in both 1969 and 1975.

And yes, I realize the Thunder used to be the Seattle SuperSonics. But I don’t really include Sonics history as part of Thunder history — even though some do.

But since this is my website, I’m keeping the Thunder and Sonics as separate entities (especially since I think Seattle will have the Sonics again within the next few years as an expansion team). Also, I doubt too many people in Seattle are rooting for the Thunder. It’s been 16 years since the Sonics left for OKC.

Regardless of how you look at it, this represents an exciting new era for the NBA. Several teams that have never or rarely experienced such moments before are now stepping into the limelight. While the Thunder are considered frontrunners due to their impressive 68-14 season record, I genuinely believe the outcome remains uncertain.

If there’s one takeaway from this season, it’s clear: This could go either way for everyone involved.

Just to clarify, I believe every possible Finals pairing would be excellent. Think about Thunder versus Knicks. Or Thunder against Pacers. Also, Wolves facing off with Knicks. And let’s not forget Wolves squaring up with Pacers. Absolutely, absolutely, and twice absolutely. I'd embrace all these scenarios. From now on, the NBA feels the same way too.

Global Nations Realign Strategies Following China-US Tariff Ceasefire

() -- Supply Lines is a daily bulletin that monitors international commerce. Sign up here .

China’s assertive approach during negotiations for a tariff ceasefire with the U.S. has made several nations believe they should adopt stronger stances in their own trade discussions with the Trump administration.

A week-long truce has provided a framework for the ongoing and challenging negotiations expected between Washington and Beijing. Despite this, China continues to face an effective average U.S. tariff close to 50%, considering both previous duties and the additional 30% rate that was consented to during discussions in Geneva, Switzerland.

However, U.S. President Donald Trump’s readiness to significantly reduce the initial 145% tariff on Chinese goods has taken governments from Seoul to Brussels aback. These administrations had thus far adhered to Washington’s plea for negotiations instead of responding with their own tariffs.

Following China’s aggressive negotiation strategies which secured them a beneficial—even if short-lived—agreement, countries opting for a more conciliatory and swift method are pondering if this is indeed the appropriate course of action.

This alters the negotiation dynamics," stated Stephen Olson, a previous US trade negotiator currently serving as a visiting senior fellow at ISEAS — Yusof Ishak Institute in Singapore. " numerous nations will examine the results from the Geneva talks and determine that Trump might be starting to recognize he may have overextended himself.

Left at 10% for now, with potential to increase later. bespoke rates will take effect unless agreements are signed or delays are approved beforehand 90-day suspension ends in July.

Although authorities are hesitant to openly indicate any toughening of their stance, indications suggest that bigger countries are starting to realize they possess greater leverage than initially believed and can consequently afford to decelerate the negotiation process.

The frontrunner of South Korea's presidency, Lee Jae-myung, stated that there is no urgency to quickly reach an initial deal during trade talks with the U.S., and he criticized the current transitional government for allegedly rushing into discussions with the Trump administration.

Last week, nearing the midpoint of the 90-day truce, Trump suggested that there isn't enough time to negotiate deals with roughly 150 nations eager for agreements. Consequently, the U.S. might impose higher tariffs unilaterally within the next two to three weeks.

Although Trump claimed that India was ready to reduce all tariffs on American products, the country’s External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar informed journalists that trade discussions are still in progress and "it would be hasty to make any conclusions."

India’s Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal was scheduled to arrive in the US over the weekend for further negotiations.

“Many nations can take a lesson from China’s approach when dealing with President Trump: stay strong, keep your cool, and compel him to surrender,” stated Marko Papic, who serves as the chief strategist for GeoMacro at BCA Research.

Japan’s Rethink

Japan’s trade officials are set to travel to Washington later this week. Last week, Japanese Trade Minister Yoji Muto bypassed an adjacent regional conference in South Korea, even though U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer was present there.

Lead negotiator Ryosei Akazawa, heading Japan’s tariff team, mentioned at the start of this month his desire to strike a deal with the US by June. However, according to recent domestic press coverage, a pact seems more probable in July, prior to an upcoming upper house election.

Officials in Tokyo are suggesting they would prefer to proceed cautiously instead of making significant compromises to reach an agreement swiftly.

"We will consider time constraints during discussions, however, we do not intend to compromise our nation's interests by getting too preoccupied with these limitations," stated Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba in parliament on Monday.

The countries involved in discussions with the U.S. are asking themselves, "Why have I been waiting?" as stated by Alicia Garcia Herrero, Chief Economist for Asia-Pacific at Natixis. She explains that this agreement allows China to move ahead of others and does not seem to offer significant advantages for the U.S., making it particularly frustrating.

Even U.S. officials are indicating that negotiations will require more time. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick mentioned that discussions with Japan and South Korea will take time Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated last week that the European Union was plagued by lack of unity that was impeding talks.

"I believe the US and Europe might move somewhat more slowly," Bessent stated during a Saudi-US Investment Forum in Riyadh on Tuesday.

On Sunday, the Treasury Secretary expressed optimism regarding broader discussions, also stating that "the situation did not develop overnight."

"Except for a few cases, the nations have presented excellent proposals for us," Bessent stated during an interview on CNN. State of the Union They aim to reduce their tariffs, decrease their non-tariff barriers, some have been devaluing their currency, and providing subsidies to industries and workers.

EU Skepticism

According to individuals aware of the European Union's talks, officials in Brussels perceived the U.S.-China tariff announcements as maintaining high duties and offering minimal concessions across various areas.

The modest negotiating achievements for the U.S. and the absence of a definite conclusion during the 90-day extension reveal how restrained Trump’s desire is to continually increase pressure on Beijing, according to sources who spoke anonymously due to confidential discussions.

The trading environment is increasingly splintering," stated Valdis Dombrovkis, the European Commissioner for Economic Affairs, adding, "The agreements reached up until now do not fully resolve this issue. interview in London on Thursday, concerning the ceasefire of tariffs with China and a UK-US outline from a deal announced just days before.

In Latin America, where growing economies aim to maintain both Chinese financial support and their ability to export goods to the U.S. market, leaders are attempting to navigate a delicate balance as these major powers confront each other.

Visiting Beijing

The Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who had earlier stated negotiation occurred prior to any retaliation, on Wednesday brushed off worried that strengthening relations with China might lead to a adverse reaction from the US following his state visit to Beijing, where he signed over 30 accords.

President Gustavo Petro of Colombia, who was also visiting Beijing recently, signed on to China’s Belt and Road initiative in a bid to boost trade and investment for his country, even as his top diplomat stressed the US remains the nation’s main ally.

This agreement between the US and China might demonstrate to countries that even the Trump administration can be influenced by the domestic economic challenges resulting from tariffs.

"The economic distress is felt more quickly and widely across the U.S., and this agreement shows that the Trump administration recognizes this," stated Robert Subbaraman, who leads global market research at Nomura Holdings Inc.

However, only those countries possessing significant economic power and minimal dependence on trade with the U.S. might have the ability to take such action, asserts Bert Hofman, a professor at the National University of Singapore and a previous World Bank country director for China. "For most nations, being stern with the U.S. poses considerable risks," Hofman stated over the telephone.

A clear instance of this is Canada, as stated by Oxford Economics last week, which noted that the country had effectively suspended Nearly all of its duties on American products have been removed. However, over the weekend, Canada’s Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne contradicted this claim, stating that the government maintained 25% counter-tariffs on tens of billions of dollars worth of U.S. merchandise.

He mentioned that as per social media, 70% of the counter-tariffs put into effect by Canada in March remain active until now. post On Saturday, the government announced they had "temporarily and publicly halted tariffs" on certain products for health and public safety reasons, according to him.

Nevertheless, since China’s influence endures due to being the global manufacturing hub, other nations might need to employ "more innovative forms of leverage," as Papic suggests.

Lacking Leverage

In the case of Vietnam, approximately one-third of its economy relies on trading with the U.S., which implies that without greater influence, they can only afford to adopt a stern stance in discussions.

Vietnam, one of the initial countries to propose buying more U.S. products like Boeing airplanes to help offset the trade imbalance, slammed Trump's tariffs last week were deemed "unreasonable."

If bigger countries wish to adopt a more adversarial stance, they might find some flexibility in services trade, according to Katrina Ell, who leads the Asia-Pacific economics division at Moody’s Analytics.

Data from Moody’s Analytics indicate that countries like the EU, Singapore, South Korea, and Japan run some of the largest services trade deficits with the U.S.

Given China's significant influence over the U.S., continuing with such a rigid approach isn't feasible," Ell stated via telephone. "It's crucial to remember this aspect of leverage and which country possesses it.
